The Secret of the Old Lighthouse
Part 1
The old lighthouse had stood at the edge of the rocky cliffs for over a hundred years. It was built to guide ships safely through the treacherous waters along the coast, but over time, the lighthouse had fallen into disrepair. No longer did it shine its guiding light, and no ships passed by the cliffs. Yet, some said that the lighthouse held a secret - one that no one had discovered in all the years since it was abandoned.
Ella had heard the stories about the lighthouse from her grandmother. According to her, the lighthouse keeper, a man named Captain Thorn, had mysteriously disappeared many years ago, just days before a terrible storm. Some said Captain Thorn had gone mad, others believed he had been searching for something hidden in the lighthouse. However, no one could ever say for sure.
Ella, who had always been curious about the lighthouse, finally decided to uncover the truth. One stormy afternoon, she made her way to the lighthouse. The wind howled as she climbed the steep path up the cliffs. When she reached the top, the lighthouse stood before her, its weathered walls covered in ivy. With a deep breath, Ella pushed open the creaking door and stepped inside.
The air was damp and musty, and dust filled the air. As she made her way through the dark, narrow hallway, Ella noticed something strange - a faint light flickering from the top of the staircase. Heart pounding, she climbed the stairs. At the top, she found an old journal, hidden beneath the floorboards. The journal belonged to Captain Thorn.
As Ella flipped through the pages, she discovered that Captain Thorn had indeed been searching for something in the lighthouse - an ancient map that would lead to a hidden treasure buried beneath the cliffs. But the map had been lost in the storm, and Captain Thorn had never returned to find it. Ella knew that she had uncovered the secret of the old lighthouse. The mystery was finally solved, but Ella couldn’t help feeling that the treasure was still waiting to be discovered.

They just want to experience the natural beauty of the places and take photos that they can share with their friends. But is tourism killing these wild places that we love so much? They have remained in a natural state for thousands of years. Do we really want to change this and turn them into holiday resorts? So, before you make the decision to go to one of the world's wild places, maybe you should stop and think. If you haven't been there yet , maybe it's best to stay away.Match modal verbs with correct sentences.
